Everyone,
Good morning!
It feels like the pollen's really flying again today.........
[note: a very small typo here, it seems; she wrote 'ka' instead of (the particle) 'ga']
And actually, yesterday, an acquaintance of Noa's daddy sent us...
wha-wha-wha-what...
..................
.................................
some fugu~~~
Awesoooooome
Fugu~~~
And so we had it right away as last night's dinner~
One whole fugu...
...coming right up!
First...the initial prep work
I'm going to make fugu karaage (deep-fried fugu)
And...
I'm going to cook some of the fugu in a earthenware pot to get a nice broth...
and make fugu nabe~
Once we've got the broth going, I add in a bunch of vegetables...
and add some chicken...
It's bubbling~...
The fugu's looking really great
And, and,
one more dish!
We were even sent this sumptuous item
TA-DA!
Fugu sashimi
"Tessa"is what it's called
[note: 'tessa' is another word for fugu sashimi, mostly used in Kansai]
Tessa messa suki ya nen Hehe
[note: "I mad love fugu sashimi," all in Kansai-ben XD]
(Like that commercial Nakazawa Yuuko was in)
[note: indeed]
................
But this "tessa" was "messa" ["mad"] impressive, y'know...
And,
with such a collection of fugu, yesterday's dinner looked like this~~~
Fugu all round~
So extravagant
It's awesome!
Too awesome!
'Cause, see,
first, we have......
(although I did mention them all before) the fugu nabe~
Then,
the tessa~
And, and,
the fugu karaage~
This was so deliciously tender,
the flesh nice and firm
Such a luxury
We're really not able to eat such extravagant foods as fugu very often at all~
And so we savored every last bit, cleaning our plates beautifully and not leaving the tiniest scrap behind
And,
in the end, when the fugu nabe had produced some really nice stock............
TA-DA!
I used it for
Zousui (rice porridge with bits of veggies & meat)
This was also just unbearably delicious
I got such great soup stock from the fugu...
That expression "so delicious your cheeks fall off" -- *this* is what it's talking about
[note: the expression is ほっぺが落ちる 'hoppe ga ochiru']
It was really, really, realllllly
delicious!
Since fugu's *so* not a food you can normally just eat whenever, we ate slowly, savoring every bite
It was so, soooooooo delicious
For sending it to us,
Macchan-san,
thank you so very much
It was incredibly delicious

So, this was a blowfish? Isn't that poisonous if not prepared properly?
Yep, that's right. She explains, though, in the next post (which I'll hopefully have up soon), that the fugu they were given had had the poisonous bits removed already, so was fine for anyone to cook and eat. (Although I suppose there's always the chance that the person didn't do it properly, but since it seems you have to go through special training and pass a very difficult test in order to become certified to prepare and sell fugu, it's probably quite safe.)
