Everyone,
Good morning!
And
today,
March 10th, is
Daddy's [i.e. Taiyou's] 28th
birthdaaay~
Happy Birthday To You~
Happy Birthday To You~
Happy Birthday DearDaddy~
Happy Birthday To You~
[note: this is the actual song in (katakana-ified) English]
(That part was the song...)
Happy birthday
And we did the countdown party last night
I only had about 2 hours to do the preparations, so I was in a huge rush, but...
I worked as hard as I could
Yesterday's dinner............
looked like this
First was
...well, the same as the other day, but.........
Karaage (deep-fried chicken) & french fries
It's one of those must-have party foods, don't you think?
And,
once again...
Green salad with tons of veggies
This was the same, too!
is what you're thinking, huh?
I did change how it tasted though
This time I used a soy sauce base
And,
Agenasu no ohitashi (deep-fried eggplant with sauce)
Daddy [i.e. Taiyou] said that this
was crazy delicious,
as he ate it
And it's really easy to make~
First,
degorge (salt & rinse to lessen the bitterness of) the eggplant,
and after degorging it, drain the excess water,
then fry the pieces (without coating/breading) in oil at 170° [Celsius]
After that, mix ginger and soy sauce in mentsuyu (a kind of soup base/noodle broth/dipping sauce), and dip the fried eggplant in it
And when the flavor has really sunk in, sprinkle on some daikon oroshi (grated daikon) and katsuobushi (dried bonito shavings),
And it's done!
If you want more flavor, you can pour on some more soy sauce
It's super easy
and super delicious,
so definitely, definitely, give it a try
Now I'll continue introducing the food
Next was
Curry nabe with various ingredients
~
For the nabe...
I put in rice,
add cheese,
and turn it into curry zousui (rice porridge with bits of veggies & meat)
This was also crazy delicious
With everyone together, we managed to eat the whole thing
And,
next was
Beef tendon stew
I tried cooking the stew so it was salty-sweet~
Beef tendon is a Sugiura family favorite
And, because I thought all these might not be quite enough............
I ordered a pizza...
With everything together, it looked like this
Looks great
And Daddy came home, completely without realizing everyone was there............
He was so surprised he was speechless
'Cause everyone was waiting in the entryway for him to appear~
[note: the word she uses for "waiting" (出待ち) is used to describe when fans throng at the exit to the stage/stadium/etc. and wait for their favorite star to come out]
(...while dancing...)
He was so happy that tears were running down his face
And while he still wasn't quite sure what was going on, we started the party
We ate, and talked about lots of different things, and played games, and watched TV............
Because it was at our house, everyone was surprisingly relaxed...
Noa also got to play with the older kids, and she was smiling happily
That was really nice
And the super special, important birthday cake
looked like this when it was finished
I was filled with a sense of accomplishment at making it, but............
Even though I was in such a rush that it was really tough to finish, being able to see his happy face made me truly happy
I also gave him the present I'd searched around for before
By the way.........
the present was a new wallet & chain
He was really, *really* happy
I was so, so glad
Take good care of it, okay~
Before we were married, he was a very
friend-oriented person, but now that we're married and he has this home life, after he finishes work he comes right home and doesn't go out drinking with them or anything...
The fact that, even when I say "It's okay if you want to go out and have a drink~"
he doesn't go
is...
something I'm really grateful for, but I also feel kinda bad about it.........
And so I was really glad for a night like last night, where so many of his friends came and they were all able to once again raise their glasses together after so long~
Because times like this when you can take a bit of a break are really important, y'know?
I think that the party last night was really a big success
Because it made him really happy
And it's that kind of special day that only comes once a year
And it's the day when, through such incredible pain, his mom gave birth to him
I think it's just a really wonderful day
Being able to celebrate together with everybody like this,
I felt so grateful to everyone,
And I think that the reason everyone came and celebrated with him is because he's got such a wonderful personality
He cherishes his family and his friends so much...
It makes me think of how very happy I am that I was able to marry him
Maybe it's getting a bit gushy, but that's really the way I feel, from the very bottom of my heart
And from now on, for always, always...
I want to be able to wish him a happy birthday and celebrate together
Honey...
Happy
28th
Birthday
Let's really, really, realllllly make it another year of happiness this year too~
HAPPY BIRTHDAY...

...whew, that was a long one...(@_@)
But it looks like it turned out to be a really nice birthday (and with some pretty damn impressive food, I think, for only have two hours to do it all in...)
~Right~? I don't think I've ever heard someone refer to a dish with eggplant as being "easy". XD
I love the "I thought it might not be enough, so I ordered a pizza" bit. Just when I think her cooking's so Japanese, she throws something like out there... XD
